The
Waterman 5 [ as a sphere cluster, as a polyhedron, projection algorithm ]
Try visually
comparing different map projections with an actual globe and see for
yourself...is Antartica the proper shape or does that require a special
insert to accomplish this ? One good look at the relative sizes of
Africa to Europe should be an eye-opener as to the "truth" presented,
from various projection methodologies.
These maps should really be in every classroom. |
The Waterman projection show the equator clearly, as well as continental shapes, distances ( within 10 % ),
areas ( within 10 % ) angular distortions ( within 20 degrees ), and relative postions,
as a compromise: statistically better than all other World maps. |

other projection systems have been able to handle the management of those
characteristics collectively as well - although admittedly, since this is a compromise,
any specific aspect could be charted...and would be better, regarding that sole aspect.
Teaching our youth with a Mercator or Robinson or the Winkel Tripel projection in
the 21st century is a continuing academic problem that many, perhaps
most, are not even aware exists. |
